"Beyond the Burqa" short documentary by Sahra Mousavi was official selected in 5th Fallbrook International Film Festival.

This film represent sthe life and prospects of women in Bamiyan, the only city with woman Mayor in Afghanistan. It follows two afghan women who are victims of the society and they are screaming to the world what they want from their society. A rare picture of how the priority of women from strict nation is changing can be seen through their stories. This is the story of afghan women building their future with past memories and utilizing the present resources.

Regulations and Entry Form The 10th annual Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival is scheduled for July 7 to 14, 2013. The festival annual theme is Crossroads of Cultures and Civilizations. The theme is anchored in the idea of a global human landscape in the process of transformation and the challenges such transformations pose to human beings. We welcome films representing diverse ethnic groups, religions, and nations that depict the human experience, daily lives of people, both ordinary and extraordinary, their troubles and joys, as they try to find meaning in a changing world, struggling to redefine themselves in a world that recognizes fewer and fewer boundaries. Internationally acclaimed director Atom Egoyan (Canada) is President of the Festival and noted director Harutyun Khachatryan (Armenia) is the General Director. According to a journalist, the festival became a pleasant place for film elite meetings: "Classics of the art house films can be understood: almost fantastic country with so ancient history, dramatic present and perspective future, naturally, interests any artist"... Program The festival includes 2 main competition sections: • International Competition (Feature, Documentary, Short) • Armenian Panorama National Competition Other festival sections: • Cinema in Dialogue Regional Competition • Retrospectives • Yerevan Premieres • Filmschool Program Eligibility • International Competition: Feature Films (full length), Documentaries, Shorts produced after July 2011. • Armenian Panorama National Competition: Feature, Animation, Short and Documentary films produced after July 2010, by film directors from Armenia as well as all those of Armenian descent. • Cinema in Dialogue Regional Competition: Feature and Documentaries produced by film-makers from Black Sea and Caucasus region, viewed by FIPRESCI jury. Selection: The special committee in charge of selection will accept films on DVD format only. Screening format:35mm for feature films; 35mm, Betacam and DVD for documentaries. Afghanistan Changes: 2002-2014 through the eyes of young Afghan filmmakers

The British Council Film project, Afghanistan Changes: 2002-2014 through the eyes of young Afghan filmmakers will be closed on 10 February 2013.

Jawed Taiman president of Tora Bora Media said, our film project lead, supported by 3 other experienced film directors gathered 50 young Afghan film makers from Kabul and other provinces to produce 6 short films with an aim to reflect people’s view on Afghanistan’s events 2002-2014 and beyond through film. The films are expected to be screened locally in the closing ceremony of the project to Afghan and international audience.

The project provided an excellent development opportunity for the filmmakers who benefited from a number of workshops on script writing, cinematography and postproduction skills.

For the future, we plan to provide opportunities for these 6 films to be screened in international festivals, which will help change of perception of people overseas about Afghanistan.

Institutional development and capacity building of Afghanistan creative industry, developing cultural leadership and national cultural identity and international recognition are the key areas of focus of the British Council’s cultural engagement in Afghanistan.

Afghanistani Film Wins Sundance Screenwriting Award

Afghan film Wajma (An Afghan Love Story) Sunday won the 2013 Sundance Award for screenwriting in the World Cinema, Dramatic category.

Directed by Barmak Akram, the drama film plots the story of the relationship between an Afghan waiter Mustafa and a woman Wajma who struggle with their love that seems to contradict Afghan culture and customs.

After Wajma falls pregnant to Mustafa, the film explores the cultural pressures on Wajma's family, namely her father, to uphold the family honour.

Film director and producer Barmak Akram, born in 1966 in Kabul and now based in France, wrote the screenplay and was also involved in writing the score. He has made numerous short films and features, amid his other work as a musician and songwriter, while crossing between his two worlds of Paris and Afghanistan.

The grand jury prize – or best film - for World Cinema, Dramatic went to a Korean film Jisuel which was set during the 1948 Jeju Massacre in Korea, and tells the story of some 120 villagers who hid in a cave for 60 days from soldiers who were under shoot-to-kill orders.Sundance Film Festival ran from January 17-27. It has been held since 1991 in Park City, Utah with the aim of supporting independent filmmakers.

CALL FOR SUBMISSION in 32nd Uppsala International SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

Submit a film

We are now accepting submissions for the International Competition and the Children’s Film Festival at the 32nd Uppsala International Short Film Festival. Short films of all genres with a running time of no more than 40 minutes are accepted for consideration. Submitted films must have been produced no earlier than two years prior to the deadline. Eligible screening formats are 35 mm and .mov files in either the ProRes 422 or h264 codec.

The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2013

Here’s how to submit a film: A preview version of the film must be registered and made available via upload towww.shortfilmdepot.com at the very latest by the deadline. If you would like to send us a preview dvd instead, you also have the option of only registering your film details at shortfilmdepot, but we prefer the upload solution.
