Definition of Grants:

• The Global Film Initiative awards up to ten (10) Production and/or Honorable Mention grants per funding cycle (Winter and Summer).
• Grants are awarded to film projects in pre-production, production and post-production
• Each Production Grant is in the amount of USD $10,000 with a pre-sale option.
• Each Honorable Mention award is in the amount of USD $1,000.
• Grants are not awarded to documentary and short film projects.

Pre-Sale Option:

• Each applicant may request to be considered for a pre-sale option for U.S. and Canadian distribution.
• Applicants who elect the pre-sale option may be offered a distribution contract for all U.S. and Canadian distribution rights if awarded a grant; the finished film will be included in the Initiative's Global Lens film series for distribution.

Application Instructions

1. Determine project eligibility
2. If project is eligible, complete and send two (2) copies of application form with two (2) copies of all supporting materials to The Global Film Initiative before application deadline (projects submitted without required application and supporting materials will not be accepted)
3. All applications must be postmarked by the deadline, and received within five (5) business days of the deadline. The Global Film Initiative will confirm via email receipt of all projects received, but will not track shipments of individual projects.

Eligibility Requirements
In order to be considered for a Global Film Initiative grant, a project must meet all of the eligibility criteria outlined below:

• Application is for narrative, feature-length film project from DAC nation (more than 65 min.; no documentary or short films accepted)
• Project is in pre-production, production or post-production stage (no projects in development accepted)
• Production occurs in same nation of application (DAC nation)
• Director was born in and is citizen of same nation of application (DAC nation)*
• 50% or more of project’s total production funding secured/received
• International, world and/or regional premiere(s) scheduled to occur after Sept. 30, 2012

*exceptions regarding citizenship may apply to applications from territories and/or regions without recognized sovereign governments

Materials to be Submitted With Application:
Two (2) copies of each of the following English-translated materials must be included (incomplete applications will not be processed):

1. Completed application form
2. Finished English-translated screenplay/script
3. Rushes/dailies, selected scenes or rough cut/final cut (if available)
4. Complete production budget
5. Finance plan
6. Copies of agreements with production financiers
7. Complete production schedule
8. Synopsis and logline
9. Director’s statement
10. Biographies of key production personnel
11. Previous film(s) of filmmaker(s) (if available)

Note:

• The Global Film Initiative does not fund documentary or short films.
• Applications must be submitted by mail or courier — electronic or faxed applications will not be accepted.
• Submission materials will not be returned to applicant.
• All grant amounts are at the sole discretion of the Global Film Initiative.
• Applications can be rejected at the sole discretion of the Global Film Initiative.

Screening of "Death to the Camera" at Hot Docs

"Death to the Camera" will be screened Thursday, May 3, 9:45 PM and Friday, May 4, 9:30 PM at Innis Town Hall.

In Death to the Camera a camera moves among women working on a job site.  As they joke and fight with each other, the mood repeatedly shifts between belly laughs and rage.  While they wait for their pay, they consider how to cover their basic expenses, what happens to international aid and whether Karzai is a crook or a servant of the people.  Is the camera revealing anything truthful, or simply inciting these women to present what they think ‘the other’ wants to hear? 

The film is eligible to win Best Short Documentary and the Audience Award.

Sayed Qasem Husseini, is a member of MIRIAM FILMS, now studies in the Cinema and Fine Arts department at Kabul University. He has previously produced a short video report on carpet making (Carpet drugged – this film was official selection on WOMAN VOICES NOW FILM FESTIVAL IN USA), served as a sports reporter for a community newspaper, and works as a freelance production assistant.
Last year his film "Death to the Camera" was winner of 1st AUTUMN HUMAN RIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL in Kabul.
Husseini is working as project manager and director of documentary film department in MIRIAM FILMS.

NAJMOALDIN is a young police officer who is from Khan Abad of Kunduz, but since ten years he is doing his duty as police inspector in Chaar Asyab of Kabul close to Logar province. He is a Persian speaker, but in Chaar Asyab most of the people are speaking Pashto. At the first it was difficult for Najmoaldin to speak Pashto, but right now he can speak a very well Pashto. 

Noorzad said: for rough cut of NAJMOALDIN 13 days is need and for final cut between 12-15 days is need.

About film: A nine year old child in Kabul decides to build a house to escape his boredom but first must overcome a number of obstacles in order to do so.

This film was winner of Best child actor in 4^th Tolo TV film festival in Kabul in 2009.

“The Glasses” short fiction film by Seyyed Husseini Mousavi

About film: two friends; one of them a boy and other one is a girl. The boy whose name is MEHRAB Finds a book full of mad and takes it home with himself. The girl whose name RAHELEH accidentally sees the book. None of them can read the book, so they go to Raheleh`s grand father to teach them how to read. The boy accidentally breaks the arm of the gather’s glasses. In order to learn reading they should fix the glasses. They try many ways which you will discover during the course of the film. 

This film was best fiction short film between 14 films in a grant awards from Kabul US embassy in 2011.

As they wait, they consider what debts they’ll pay off, what food they’ll buy, and how they’ll stay warm during the approaching winter. There is lively discussion about what happens to all the aid that never reaches them, and whether Karzai is a crook or a servant of the people.

Is the camera revealing anything truthful, or simply inciting these women to present what they think ‘the other’ wants to hear – or what might get them something from the world on the other side of the camera? Who is on the other side of that camera anyway?

Festivals in the world for student films, and is considered one of the most important in this field.

DIALOGUE OF CULTURES FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES $40,000 DOCUMENTARY GRANT

 

 

BERLIN, February 8, 2012 – Successfully launched in New York last year, the Dialogue of Cultures Festival is very proud to announce its $40,000 grant program for the production of a 30-minute documentary that best captures the festival’s theme in a creative and vibrant way.

 

Applications can be entered until April 30 by director/producer teams from all over the world. The winner will be announced during the Cannes film festival, with production starting immediately following the announcement. The resulting documentary will premiere at the Oct 20-23 2012 edition in Brussels after which it will also be submitted for screenings at other festivals worldwide.

 

Dialogue of Cultures International Film Festival is the world’s first festival dedicated to globalization, showcasing features and docs with characters in search of their identity, trying to balance a desire to preserve their own distinctiveness, self-identity while still understanding and respecting other cultures.

 

Founded by film producer Boris Cherdabayev (2008 Pusan opener GIFT TO STALIN), Dialogue of Cultures (Oct 20-23 each year) is a nomadic festival, taking place in a different country each year. After its launch in New York in 2011, the next edition is schedule for Brussels (Oct 20-23), where it will reach out to Euro parliamentarians and organizations.

Death to the Camera by Sayed Qasem Husseini HOT DOCS invite Death to the Camera to screen at the 2012 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival (April 26-May 6).

Death to the Camera will be presented with a feature documentary, and is eligible for the Award for Best Short Documentary, and the Audience Award.
